    Board of Directors

    Because Tombolo is committed to hearing everyone’s voices and to transparency, the Board of Directors operates using a consensus model. Click here to learn more about the consensus process.

    Our current board members include:

    Aaron Albertson has a Masters of Library and Information Science and currently teaches effective ways to find, evaluate, and use information to students at Macalester College in his job as a reference & instruction librarian. He has been serving on the operations committee for the nonprofit City of Lakes Loppet for the past six years.

    Ian Bicking has been involved with community building and project governance through numerous open source community projects, and is excited to apply these skills to a new kind of community.

    Leah Collins has a degree in Communication Studies and a background in organization administration. She has extensive experience managing new hire orientation, developing creative communication strategies and coordinating team member development.

    Miriam Krause is a speech-language pathologist and a doctoral student in the Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences Department at the University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on studying the effects of traumatic brain injury on cognition and communication, and on helping people with traumatic brain injury return to college.

    Phil Grove is a lawyer with 20 years experience, primarily in government and in nonprofit legal services. Currently he is employed as a Human Services Judge with the Minnesota Department of Human Services. Before becoming a lawyer, he was a teacher, living skills counselor, and computer programmer and instructor for deaf, deaf-blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill adults and children, and was one of the incorporators and founding Board members of FIND, Inc., a nonprofit providing services to deaf-blind individuals. He has been involved with Friends for a Nonviolent World, a Minnesota nonprofit, for 18 years and recently completed two three-year terms on the Board of that organization.

    Courtney Kellerman Wells is currently a graduate student at the University of Minnesota studying public health and social work with intentions of becoming an academic researcher. Courtney brings years of personal and professional experience in the world of chronic illness and has served as an advocate for those touched by illness in a variety of settings including health care, academia, and non-profit.

    Emily Murphy Bicking has run her own pottery business for the past 10 years. She was been blogging for the past 7 years and understands how to use social media to develop and expand community. On a more personal side, she is a primary support person for her extended family (nephew) who has a chronic illness and understands what is needed on a day to day level to support families who have a child with a chronic illness.

    Anne Supplee attempts to live a life that is light-hearted, generous and builds community. She works as a chaplain with people with a terminal illness and also with those in recovery. She has over 20 years experience working at nonprofits and has served on boards of others.
